16 Days Of Activism: Ending Gender-Based Violence In Africa

Hello everyone! I’m Felxfame Enisire, I work for Community and Youth Development Initiatives (CYDI), and I’ve been on the front lines of the campaign against gender-based violence (GBV) in Africa since 2015, particularly, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)As we embark on the annual “16 Days of Activism to end Gender-Based Violence,” it’s crucial to reflect on the urgency and significance of putting an end to violence against women and children in our beloved continent.

Why Africa Needs to Unite Against Gender-Based Violence:

1️⃣ Preserving Human Dignity: Every individual, regardless of gender, deserves to live a life free from violence. GBV strips away the fundamental human right to dignity, undermining the very essence of a thriving society.

2️⃣ Empowering Women and Children: Ending violence is key to empowering women and children to reach their full potential. By eradicating GBV, we create a safe space for them to pursue education, careers, and personal growth, contributing to the overall development of our communities.

3️⃣ Breaking the Cycle of Abuse: Children who witness or experience violence are more likely to perpetuate this cycle in their own lives. Putting an end to GBV is a crucial step in breaking this destructive pattern, and fostering healthier generations for the future.

4️⃣ Economic Impact: Violence against women limits their economic participation. Creating an environment free from GBV opens doors for women to actively contribute to economic growth, lifting families and communities out of poverty.

5️⃣ Social Harmony: A society free from gender-based violence is a society that thrives on mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation. Ending GBV contributes to creating a harmonious environment where everyone can coexist peacefully and equitably.

How CYDI is Making a Difference:

At CYDI, we believe in the power of community-driven initiatives to bring about lasting change. Through awareness campaigns, educational programs, and advocacy, we strive to mobilize communities across Africa to stand up against GBV. Together, we can create a future where every person, regardless of gender, can live without fear of violence.

Join us in the fight against gender-based violence during these 16 Days of Activism and beyond. Let’s work hand in hand to create a continent where love, respect, and equality prevail. Together, we can make a difference!
